Trojans Qualify Five for Nationals

Hannibal, MO - Before the season began, the Trojan wrestlers were faced with a challenge - qualify five individuals for the NAIA National Wrestling Championships. The wrestlers answered. The Trojans have already qualified five individuals with four tournaments still left on the schedule.

“I challenged our team with the goal of getting five wrestlers to the national tournament,” said Head Coach Scott Hawes. “I’m excited that we have had five wrestlers stepped up to meet the challenge.”

Ian Taylor was the first Trojan to qualify for nationals. Taylor qualified in the 165 pound division after placing sixth at the Loras College Open on November 6. HLG qualified two more at the Knox College Invitational on November 13. Both Bryce Alexander (157 lbs.) and Dan Capp (174 lbs.) qualified after second place finishes.

The final two qualified at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Invite on December 4. Zach Fish qualified in the 157 pound division after a third place finish while Mitch Burnaugh qualified in the 184 pound weight division after a sixth place finish.

The NAIA nationals will be held from March 3-6 this season in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
