Hannibal, MO - Freshman wrestler Bryce Alexander tied the HGLU win record this past Saturday at the Missouri Valley College Open. Alexander’s 27th win was extra sweet as he pinned University of Missouri wrestler Luke Greco in the first round at the 1:45 mark.

“It is not unusual for HLGU to compete at the same tournaments as NCAA Division I opponents,” said Coach Scott Hawes. “We have had wrestlers beat D-I opponents in the past, but it is sweet to finally have a wrestler beat a Mizzou wrestler. I could see that Alexander was gaining more confidence in the match and sure enough he got a reversal and stopped Greco’s attempt at a granby, which put Greco flat on his back. I’m excited that as a freshmen Alexander kept his hope alive and came out on top against a tough opponent. I look forward to what God has in store in the future with Bryce [Alexander’s] wrestling abilities.”

Alexander will have the opportunity to break the HLGU win record while at the Central Regional Tournament in Marshall, MO held on February 19. The record was originally set by former HLGU wrestler Jobi Hambrick last season.
