NWCA Good Health Reminder

Below is a copy of the Newsletter from the National Wrestling Coaches Association. It was at the NWCA Coaches Leadership Academy where I learned about the Hibiclens and Hibistate products. HLG wrestling uses both products to help prevent the spread of fungal and bacteria infections.

“As wrestlers prepare for the important post season championship season , the NWCA and our partner, Hibiclens, wanted to provide you with some simple, practical tips for keeping your wrestlers free from skin infection. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions and good luck with your post season competition.” Mike Moyer, NWCA Executive Director
Tournaments and Prevention:
The risks of skin infections after a tournament are significant. Since wrestlers are the athletes most likely to carry potentially harmful bacteria on their skin, the risk of exposure compounds exponentially during a tournament.
Here are some steps to reduce the risk:
Have wrestlers shower with Hibiclens prior to the start of the tournament
Hibiclens remains active on the skin for up to 6 hours after washing[1]
Washing with Hibiclens prior to contact with contaminated skin and surfaces will significantly reduce the risk of contamination that can lead to a serious infection[2].
If a shower is not reasonable, have wrestlers wash hands, arms and faces with Hibiclens prior to wrestling. This represents the primary areas of skin to skin contact during the match.
Use Hibistat wipes between or during the match when there is not water available.
Please feel free to contact Hibiclens with any questions you may have:

Hambrick Becomes Second Trojan Wrestler to Receive NAIA National Ranking

Jobi Hambrick (fr./Lexington, MO) becomes the second Trojan wrestler to receive a NAIA national ranking this season for the 174 pound weight class. Earlier in the season Nathan Downs was ranked 12th in the same weight class, but fell out of the rankings after sitting out of competition following injury. Hambrick has claimed the 12th place spot at the same weight class as a result of winning his second consecutive and third overall championship of the season at the Central College Invitational Tournament. Hambrick’s winning streak raises his overall record to 29-9. Hambrick demonstrated the poise of a seasoned veteran as he grappled his way to the finals. Hambrick also secured a spot in 3rd place for the NAIA’s Central Group Rating. Coach Hawes states, "It is awesome to have two of the best wrestlers in the same weight class in our room. Downs and Hambrick make each other sharp as they practice and it comes out on the mat in competition. Because of NAIA allowing two wrestlers from the same team to compete at the national tournament we will have the honor of having both wrestlers representing HLG on the national stage!" Congratulations Jobi!

Another noteworthy accomplishment to note is that in only the second season of competition the young Trojan Wrestling team has also qualified 5 wrestlers for the NAIA national tournament and has also for the second time this season received a honorable mention votes for national team ranking in the current team rankings as well!

Hambrick Wins His Third Tournament of the Season

Jobi Hambrick keeps Trojan pride alive by winning his second consecutive and third overall championship of the season at the Central College Invitational Tournament. Hambrick’s winning streak raises his overall record to 29-9. Hambrick demonstrated the poise of a seasoned veteran as he grappled his way to the finals. Hambrick also secured a spot in 3rd place for the NAIA’s Central Group Rating. Congratulations Jobi! Josh Smith wrestled up from 149 to 157 and was able to garner 3 wins and finished the day at 3-2. We have seen some sickness and injuries hamper the success of several of our other wrestlers on the weekend. Due to injuries and sickness this Thursday’s dual vs. Oklahoma City has been postponed until next season.
